| Exporting CS3 FW to Illustrator CS3? |

Hello!
I've created a low resolution interface for moble phones in Fireworks CS3
(160x128 pix) and I am planning to make an instruction manual with screen
shots. Since I don't want the screen shots to be pixellated and jagged (like my
screens) but with completely rounded corners I try to import my FW file into
Illustrator (I tried saving as Illustrator file in FW). The result, however is
not very nice, since colors and effects are changed. Am I asking for too much
or is there a way to safely transfer a FW file into an AI without distortions?
Kind regards
M

Fireworks is a vector drawing program. It also happens to be for the web. You
could always change your resolution in Fireworks for the PNG. It's down in the
Property Inspector. Just click off of everything and click on Image Size. It is
indeed 72ppi by default, but that can be changed. If you have drawn your boxes
with the vector tools, it'll still look great. What program are you using to
put all this together in? InDesign? I ask because InDesign will happily bring
in the PNG from Fireworks.
A screen shot isn't going to change whether you take it in Fireworks or
Illustrator though. I recommend you get a program that takes screen shots in a
higher resolution as well. It sounds like you are going to need other types of
screen shots. It depends on whether you are on a Mac or PC, and there are some
good ones out there. Snapz Pro on the Mac is a great tool.

At this time, AI support is really only one way. You can import AI files
with a decent degree of fidelity, but exporting as AI renders the file
in AI 8, not CS3. So anything fancy usually doesn't end up getting
translated to Illustrator.
You might be better off saving the file at the correct resolution as a
Photoshop file if you want to work with it outside of FW.
