Adobe EDGE click-through example problems

Adobe EDGE click-through example problems
Tue, 6 May 2008 04:18:23 +0000
I was just reading through Jim Babbage's recent Adobe EDGE article "How to

create a click-through mock-up
with Adobe Fireworks CS3" (thanks Jim!) and ran into two weird problems
with
the mockup_final.png file that comes in the tutorial's ZIP file. Has anyone
else encountered these?

 (1) I cannot save the file after making even a single minor change - I get an
error message that the file is locked.

 (2) When I export the HTML click-through (according to the instructions), the
index.html page looks and acts as expected, and the image file is 845x700 px.
However, the two gallery pages (europe_gallery and canada_gallery) are tiny and

look like thumbnails (200x166 px) - the hotspots are in the proportionally
correct place, but the pages are miniscule! (At first I thought it might be a
weird Firefox issue resizing the bitmaps, but the actual JPEGs are this size!)

I'm not sure how or why FW CS3 is exporting a normally sized page as a very
small image. I've shut-down and re-started FW, downloaded the ZIP file again,
and even tried to export before making *any* changes and after making minor
changes to the file. Every time the canada_gallery and europe_gallery pages
export as 200x166 px bitmaps.

Jim, if you're reading this, do you have any ideas or solutions? (And thanks
for all of your contributions to this forum and other FW groups!)

 Dave

Hi Dave:

Can you email me or post a link to the file you were working on? I'll be
happy to have a look.

Hey Dave:

Somehow the file became a read-only file. I didn't make it that way so
no idea what went on, but it's an easy fix.

Windows
right click on the file and choose Properties. UN-check the read-only
check box.

Mac

I don't have a Mac handy, but I believe you can make this setting change
by viewing File Info.

Problem 2

It seems that FW was remembering export size settings from something
else I was working on. Go to the two other pages and for each page,
choose File > Image Preview. Go to the File tab and reset the scaling to
100%. Click OK

Do that for both page and you should be fine. In the meantime, I'll send
an updated file to Adobe that fixes both issues.

Just so you know, the files have been updated on the Edge newsletter, so
feel free to download it again if you like.

Jim,

Thanks for the rapid response and the fixes. I completely forgot to check the

read-only status (I'm on Windows XP) as a file property, and I've now learned
that you can set an export size for bitmaps independent of the source image
size. One fix and one lesson - thanks!

 Dave
