I'm not sure I understand your question but check your snap-to behaviors.
The position of the pointer will snap to an object, grid or guide if those
snap behaviors are on.

I just installed a new version of FH on a new PC at my new job. When I use the
pointer tool to move an object, sometimes (but not always) it uses the pointer
as a center point for the object. If I want to just move the object, the tool
centers it at the pointer instead of just sliding the object over. I hope this
is clear. It's really annoying! I know I fixed my home version years ago on my
mac, but I can't remember how I did it. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance,
Terry

Not always true.
When dragging an object while holding the shift key, you are asking the
program to constrain the drag to the default constraint angles which are
vertical, horizontal or 45-degree angles. The drag cursor does not remain on
the mousedown position on the object being dragged, but follows your mouse
movement. The object jumps to the point within constraint that is closest to
the cursor.
Constrained dragging also follows the constraint setting in File>Document
Settings>Constrain.

I don't understand this sentence. Please differentiate between object being
dragged and object being used as a target. What is centered on the cursor?
Mousedown with pointer tool. When you start to drag the pointer cursor
changes to the crossed-arrow drag cursor. Yes the snap position is in the
center of that cursor. Think of the crossed arrows as cross-hairs.
There were some changes to snap behaviors between various versions of FH. In
FHMX 11.0.2, when snap-to-point is on, then the cursor position of objects
being dragged will snap to center points of other ellipses or rectangles on
the page. Is that what you're seeing?

Thanks for your reply Judy, I'll look into that. I'll try and describe what's
happening: I want to move an object or group - I click on it and depending on
how I want it to move I'll just drag in to where I want it to go or hold down
the shift key to move is sideways or up/down. The cursor's relation to the
object always should stay the same, ie if I click on the bottom edge, it moves
the object and the cursor stays on the bottom edge. What's happening here is
the object snaps to the cursor position but it's centered on the cursor. It's
completely random, sometimes it does it and sometimes not so I never know when
my object is gonna jump, regardless of whether I'm holding down the shift key,
or how fast I drag it or whatever. I can't find anything in the preferences
that allows me to change this behavior. I know I fixed it years ago in a
previous version on my mac, but I forget how I did it. Has anyone else had this
problem??????
I hope this is clear. Thanks again, Terry
