Thanks Mike. I tried these steps but had no success either.
Just as an aside, MapPoint works fine on my Vista Laptop so it has to be
some random setting or corrupt file. here's hoping for a fix or a SP-1
miracle.

Seeings you have searched the KBs I am sure you do not have any 'dots' in
the file names, and that you are using Classic Excel XLS files and not the
2007 XLSX variant.
MDAC and all the other db chatting stuff (Jet....) has been rolled up and
replaced by Windows DAC. There are no reinstall tricks that have been found
at this time, and utilities such as CSRepair that are good for repairing
MDAC don't do Vista.
What may help you though, is to use the System File Checker. This utility
will go through all of the core system components and make sure they are as
they shipped. It may be time consuming, and may require your Vista
installation media

Another option is to wait for the Vista Service Pack. The WinDAC versioning
is tied to the Win Version, so it will be updated with Vista SP1. This may
take care of the problem if it was corrupted/damaged. I plan on being an
SP1 holdout for awhile, so this would not be my option

Hi,
If you still cannot find methods to slove your problem, maybe you can
try some Excel file recovery tools such as Advanced Excel Repair to
repair your Excel file.
Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/
And you can also download a free demo version at
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe
Hope this helps.
