mappoint upgrade question

All,

We have a desktop application, which is built on mappoint objects. The 
mappoint version we are using right now is Mappoint 2004 North America. 

We want to upgrade our mappoint. The current latest version is 2006. Anyone 
knows when can we expect mappoint 2008 release? We try to avoid upgrade our 
software twice in a year.

Also, is later version of MP compatible with the previous version? That 
means, we don't have to rewrite our code?

2006 supports some additional APIs, not present in 2004 (thus, some things 
are a little easier to do now).  I have not found any incompatibilities --  
thus, (for me) code for 2004 worked equally well with 2006.

BTW, MapPoint usually is released in a 2 -year cycle.  So, you might want to 
put off an upgrade until the 2008, or perhaps 2009, release.  I have no idea 
when the next version actually will be released.  2006 came out in August 
2006.
