About NAV and SBS 2003
Tue, 25 Mar 2008 09:27:04 +010
Hello,

I searching for somebody who had ever experience with SBS2003 as server of
NAV.
Does it work without any trouble ?
Is there some special features which need to be control ?
... your help is welcome

Main issue we found was performance. SBS2003 usually runs as your Domain
Controller AND Exchange AND Firewall so to stick SQL in the mix and
attempting to run Nav, you're unlikely to get decent performance.

Hello Drew,

Why "unlikely to get decent performance" ?
Sql is coming from SBS too ! (Premium version).

Exactly. Both SQL and Exchange say to themselves "I'm going to grab all
available resources for my own purposes". As they are on the same server,

they will be in a constant fight for memory & processor resources and, in my

experience (we tried to run Navision on SBS2003 at the start), Exchange
usually wins. We very quickly realised that we needed a dedicated SQL
server to run our Navision installation and left SBS2003 to handle exchange
and domain control.

Thanks for your answer.
What was the version of NAV, SQL and SBS2003 at this time ?
What was your configuration (processor, memory,...) ?
Do you think it is possible to set the memory or to solve with a quad core
bi-processor server ?
It is for my experience and the cost of this operation we will have to do in
the future in my company.

Salutations.
