2003 GALSync w/IIFP two sites. One going to Exchange 2007

2003 GALSync w/IIFP two sites. One going to Exchange 2007
Tue, 15 Jan 2008 08:05:01 -080
We are connecting two Exchange 2003 sites with IIFP. One of the sites is
moving to Exchange 2007. Is ILM 2007 the only option for GALSync?

We are using SMTP Connectors to send mail to each other, we share a SMTP
domain name which is the primary for all accounts. One each side we use a
distinct smtp as a secondary and route via the smtp connector to the other
site. With Exchange 03 that worked pretty well. How would this be impacted
moving one site to Exchange 2007?

Assistance is much appreciated.

At this moment - if You want to stick to MS technology - unfortunately I
have to say yes ... however :)
OK - to synchronize GALs between two (or more organizations) You may use
ILM or IIFP. ILM has advantage here - it has Feature Pack 1 which brings
support for Exchagne 2007 in form of new cmdlet calls which allows ILM
to provision mailboxes in pure Exchange 2007 environment.

IIFP can also synchronize GALs however there is no FP1 released for IIFP
so it can provision only contacts in the same way as for Exchange 2003.
As soon as You have still at least one Exchange 2003 in your
organization and RUS is working it will work just fine - RUS will
populate necessary attributes and You will have fully working contacts.

When You have pure Ex2007 environment You can still utilize this
approach however You have to schedule some external process (script in
task scheduled ) to perform cmdlet calls (described on Technet page
linked in a blog entry You have referenced to) and this might not be
very effective if it will have to be run often (once a day however
shouldn't be a problem).

Of course You can also use third party tools or your custom solution
with LDIF files and powershell processing ... more work might be required.

It should work in the same way .. maybe some configuration would be
required ... connectors concepts has changed in Ex2007 - look for send
connector in documentation
