HELP! Can't send emails!!!

HELP! Can't send emails!!!
Fri, 20 Jul 2007 20:55:13 -040
A little background....I work at a small company. We have a website and email
hosted at Brinkster. We do not have our own email server in-house or local
domain. We have AT&T (Bellsouth) as our DSL provider at work. I use a
sprint card to connect to the internet when on the road. I use Outlook 2003 to
read and send email.

Since AT&T/Bellsouth blocks port 25, we have to send emails via
mail.bellsouth.net when at work. Bellsouth will not allow you to send emails
via mail.bellsouth.net when connected to another network (like Sprint). And,
Sprint requires a login to send emails, but operates on port 25, which is
blocked when I am on the office network.

For a while, I used 2 Outlook profiles - Office (configured for Bellsouth) &
Roaming (configured for Sprint. This quickly became unmanageable as I had a
hard time keeping the 2 profiles synced on my laptop. I can find software to
keep 2 different PCs synced but nothing to sync 2 profiles synced on the same PC
(most of the syncing apps want both profiles open simultaneously to transfer
their data, which is not possible on the same XP laptop).

I thought the way to go would be to relay my emails through my Bellsouth
connection and keep only one profile.

So, I set up a small SMTP Mail server and started sending mail through it, using
a dynamic dns service for my officesmtp.mycompany.com SMTP server name and port
26 (since BS blocks 25). But, some email servers block my emails because (I was
told) they cannot authenticate my server.

What I need is a simple way to bounce emails off my work PC from my laptop so
that Bellsouth sees them as coming from my work PC's IP address and not my
laptop when I am on the Sprint network.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Since BellSouth is now part of AT&T, can't you use the new AT&T servers
that do SMTP on port 465?

Gary,

Thanks for the suggestion, but the AT&T children aren't sharing login
info yet.

Have you asked BellSouth how to authenticate so you can use their servers
all the time? Many providers will allow it if you authenticate or use
different ports.

Diane, authentication won't help. When the OP is on the road with her laptop,
Sprint will block any attempt to use a BellSouth server on port 25.
It needs to be a non-25 port.
