.net Framework 1.1

I had occasion to re-install XPpro/SP2 and then went for all the updates.  
This included .netFramework 1.1.

This created a problem in that I now had to sign in to boot up.  In the past 
there was 1.0 and this had the same problem, but it had an update which 
cleared the problem.   Does anyone know of a fix as settings in User Accounts 
does not help?
Trying to uninstall 1.1 was not sucessful in clearing this anomaly and, in
