XP Service Pack 2 will not install

I installed XP home, then asked for all updates. About 14 updates loaded and 
installed except for XP SP2.
UPDATE keeps telling me to install SP2 before proceding but I get the error 
"The following updates were not installed" and the history indicates
'error 
code 0x80070017'.
I have entered this code everywhere I can think of on the MS Support sites 
and I get "cannot locate" etc.
I had XP Home Edition - SP2 running fine on this machine before 'little 
fingers' did some "not supposed to" things and I couldn't correct the

problems. I then reformatted the drive and reloaded XP HE. I just can't get 
SP2 to install!!!!!

Have you tried manually downloading SP 2 and installing it? You can get it 
from Microsoft's Download site.

Ignore the "for XP pro's". It basically is the full XP SP2 package and
will 
update your machine.
