You're right, those comments are informed and gratifying.
My other sentiment is a recollection of an interval when the word Norton meant
useful, not hungry.

Norton Utilities was an app that no one I knew was without. Peter Norton had
some great ideas and implemented them well. I wonder what he'd be thinking
about how Symantec has changed things.

My guess? He's diplomatically shaking his head the way Sal Marantz did at a CES
show in the late '70s.
How many companies have managed to expand scope, scale, and maintain integrity
the way Microsoft has? I could name a few, but only a few.

Then again, Thompson was an IBM lifer before he got the Symantec gig after
Eubanks Left.

Anyone still remember a small nugget called ncd.com - Norton Change Directory? I
still miss it when changing directories from the command line.
