For some time, I have downloaded messages from both the secnews and
news.mozilla.org servers, because I'm on dial-up and figured if I D/l
all the messages, I could then read at my leisure and have my phone line
free, in case someone was trying to contact my by 'phone.
Occasionally I forget to select one of the news servers before trying to
D/L, but when I do this, the "Offline" selection is greyed out,
letting
me know I've stuffed up again.
When I get it right, it has always intrigued me that, when I want to D/L
the news groups, I can select to d/l my mail at the same time. Why,
then, can I not D/L my news groups whilst D/L'ing e-mail, but HAVE to
select a news server to get both?
Anybody got any ideas??

You have only one primary email address right?
You have multiple new servers (at least two). The program needs you to make
a choice:-))

I eat my peas with honey.
I've done it all my life.
It makes the peas taste funny.
But it keeps them on my knife.

Sorry, Lou. I subscribe to four news servers, and usually d/l from two.
So what's this got to do with not being able to D/L my News groups when
I have my mail account selected when I can D/L my mail if I have any of
the four News servers selected?

The program MUST be told WHICH news server to D/L. It does NOT know which one
and
it can only d/l one at a time.

You can. You can either download newsgroups manually (like downloading
mail manually using Get Mail) or you can have the program do it for you
on an automatic basis (like you have with mail). That way you can be
reading your mail and getting your newsgroups at the same time.
Caveat: I recommend mail check times of 5 minutes or more, and news
