Task issues

Hey folks,

I was aiming to use the task system as sort of a weekly (and in some 
times daily) list of things to do but when I check off a task that it is 
complete, it applies to all occurences (if it's daily it goes for every 
day ad infinitum, if it's for 3 weeks it goes for all 3 weeks, etc) thus 
removing the use of this task system for me. Is there any way around this?

It seems like Tasks are some form of work that can go for an 
indeterminate amount of time like if you're a freelancer of whatever 
profession different projects might count as tasks.

If there's a way around this with tasks that doesn't involve having to 
remake the same task over and over again for every single week (or every 
single day!) then I'd be happy to hear it, if not I'll have to go back 
to the odd habit of "dismissing" my finished tasks as
"events"

Or if there's just a way to display events in a checklist like tasks, 
I'd be cool with that too.
