How to update

How to update
Fri, 11 Apr 2008 20:49:14 -070
Have Lightning 0.8. Attempting to upgrade to 0.8rc2 for windows 32 from
the website:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/0.8rc2/

Downloaded, then installed over the top and restarted TB (twice).
However the extension window in TB 2.0.0.12 still reads 0.8, not rc2.
Fear that if I must first delete 0.8 then would lose everything. So
how can it be updated without losing anything? (Read on this newsgroup
last week, that several items were fixed in rc2 so would like to try it
out.)

Second question: Why is that Moz ftp site opens in IE, not FF? There
is no ftp file type, and only method I've found is to bookmark your site
in FF and open from there. How to make a permanent change?

I had read that there are considerable fixes in rc2. At any rate, how
is it installed?

rc2 is a release-candidate, so 0.8 is newer then 0.8rc2. No need to
update from 0.8 to 0.8rc2. Also, there are no differences between 0.8
and rc2 afaik.

Yes, 0.8rc2 contains fixes compared to 0.7, and even some compared to
0.8rc1. But 0.8rc2 is a _release candidate_ for the _release_ 0.8. If
you have 0.8, you don't need 0.8rc2.
But if you really, really want to downgrade like this, you need to
uninstall 0.8 first. That should not loose any data, but to be sure,
