You can change that default global use of the Local Folders' Inbox. Do
click on the Advanced button on the Server Settings of the account
(Tools/Account settings); change the global assignment to Inbox for this
server account.
Move your messages over to your new account folders and you're done.
Note to file: this default, global inbox, has been bugging new users as
long as it exists. What was the deciding factor for this choice?

As best I can remember, it was to provide "compatabilty" for OE users
converting to FF.

I created a new email account but only "Local Folders" is shown on the
left pane. On the Account Settings "Local Folders" is the only option
for "Sent Folder" on and other folders for the new account.
