| Phantom usenet headers? |

TB 2.0.0.12 (20080213) XP Pro+SP2+all updates.
I subscribe to 5 newsgroups, the most active of which usually has less
than 200 new posts per day; I usually mark them all read after reading
those of interest. A week or so ago the title line said something like
183 unread, but when I went to download the headers was shocked to get a
message saying something like 23678 headers to download. I downloaded
the first 500 and got a similar message with another NG when I expected
to download just 13 messages. Despite setting them all as "read" it
happened again the next day - then I started to get messages like "This
NG doesn't appear on the server, do you want to unsubscribe?".
Thinking that this was a problem with my news-server I switched to one I
used to use but gave up because of speed issues. It worked fine for a
day or so, but started to behave the same today. For example, it
currently tells me there are 175 unread messages on one NG, but when I
attempt to download the headers it says there are 23347 new message
header to download.
It seems strange that 2 completely separate servers (one in Poland)
should start misbehaving at about the same time.
Is this a TB problem?

Right click on the newsgroup folder, select properties, click on the
renew index button.
