After years of running TB and FF, I just clicked
on  newsgroup  news.microsoft.com

and got a report

    Cannot connect to  server       news.microsoft.com.
    The connection was refused......

An hour later......still no connection, but now
it says  "Connection timed out...."

works either way. I have setup using msnews.

Tony's question confirmed they are either having a problem or are going 
through down time repairs. although you would think they would do this 
stuff in the middle of the night when most people other than night owls 
are in bed.

But then Mozilla does the same except they do announce they will be down.

They are back on the air now. And, BTW, the group is

          microsoft.public.virtualpc

but the no connection notice

you most likely can get to it from msnews.microsoft.com server.

I use to get post from news.microsoft.com and notice delays in getting 
responses. Turns out new.microsoft.com is a mirror. the actual main 
server is msnews ...

Just for kicks try the following:

create the msnews account. then once setup try subscribing. I bet the 
group you are interested in is on that server as well.
