Layering with fixed page layout

Layering with fixed page layout
Mon, 24 Mar 2008 11:49:43 -070
I've been using layout regions with fixed page layout so that I can place
text upon objects/bg's within the region. But I've a client though who sees
pages I've created that are not aligning correctly on her Mac. Some of the
text is shifting.

Now, I've read in help pages that fixed page layout is accurate, for the
most part, in IE 4 and Netscape 4 and above. But how does one generate pages
such as this: http://www.netobjects.com/html/new_in_10.html in which the
text is layered upon bg images, and in which, I'm assuming, appears
correctly across browsers?

I've looked over the html in view source and see where it addresses
different browsers but I don't know enough about coding to tell what's going
on here.

OOOHHHHH!! Man!!!

I've been using an image in a layout region within the layout for the so
called bg of each individual page and attempting to place the text over
that. I knew it was an easy fix, I just didn't know how it was done!! I'm
gonna be all over this because I felt like the only way I could do it was
with fixed page layout.

And, yeah, I can slice and dice the image for the bg no sweat and,
hopefully, make it work. But, wait, I can just place the sliced images in
the Layout Region's bg to make up the whole image, correct? Well, I'll just
try it ....

Thanks Chuck!!

Dean,

If you make an image a background of a layout region, you can place text
over it in text boxes without using fixed layout.

You can even place a layout region inside another layout region and give
that one a different background that you can place text over.

Sounds to me like you should be creating a single background image out of
individual images using a graphics program.

This doesn't have to be complicated. (-;

Okay Chuck, I know that it doesn't need to be complicated but, I need a
single image for the bg, right? No problem, otherwise it tiles. I'd thought
that you were suggesting to place sliced images in the bg to create the
whole image. But that can't be.

It tiles. Duh.

Yet, how do others slice an image for faster loading and javascript and
layer on that. For example, it's the same manner as in the NO page that I
referenced in my first post, I saved bg's off of that and they are slices of
the larger image yet have text layered on them. What gives?

Thank you,

Dean

Gotcha, that's just what I was experimenting with. In fact, as I noticed on
the Netobjects page some of the bg are pics and then where layers occur,
like what the "View All Features" is sitting upon is, in fact, a
background
slice.

Thank you Chuck for your help and quick response.
