SiteStyle
Tue, 18 Mar 2008 12:30:36 -040
Following the removal and reinstallation of NOF8 due to file instability
issues, I am now getting an error when I first launch the .nod file
representing my current site. The error message states that my SiteStyle is
missing and that I must add one. Following this message, my site opens and
everything appears just fine despite not having a 'SiteStyle' specified.

Having read through the NOF Help section, it appears to suggest it is the
SiteStyle that determines how the navigation banners, buttons, text and
other design elements appear on any given site.

If I have no SiteStyle assigned to my current site, how is it that I can
still view all my design elements?

I would like to make this error message go away so if this means assigning a
SiteStyle then I'd like to do this. However, the Help section suggests that
once I've assigned a SiteStyle, that it will replace all my buttons in my
navigation bars with images from the style I specify. I don't want this to
happen. I don't want any of my design elements to change.

So, is a SiteStyle really necessary? If so, can I create a custom one that
when applied, doesn't change any of my current design elements?

Thanks for any help or direction anyone might provide.

Yes... a Site Style is necessary. Even if you don't use most of its
elements.

In Style View, you can create a blank style and make your own buttons/banner
for it in a graphics program.

Or you can make a copy of an existing style and make it your active site
style. Then modify it if you wish.

The most useful part of a Site Style, as far as I'm concerned, is setting
text styles for use with CSS.

Thanks...

Perhaps a Style is necessary but my current absence of one associated with
my site, doesn't support the necessity you speak of...least not that I can
see right now.

How do I create a style that will not change any of my current design
elements when the style is applied? Or said differently, how do I copy an
existing style and make it my active site style without changing any of my
current design elements?

You go to Site View, select a style, right click and make a copy.

Once you set it to be your active style, it WILL change whatever is in your
site now.

So... in your Site Folder in User Sites, you should find a folder called
Styles. This is where your Active Style gets copied to.

You'll find a Style-name folder in there.

If you copy the folder and contents into your Styles folder in the Fusion
program folder and then restart Fusion, you should see that Style in Style
View. Make it your Active Style and you should be fine... without anything
in your site changing. Probably.

Hard to say for sure just how wrong your site file is from afar.

As many people do, I put a lot of time and effort into my site. Descriptors
like 'probably' are hard pills to swallow.

What is the worse case scenario if I elect to ignore the SiteStyle error
message?
