| Google Sitemap |

I just added NOF8's javascript sitemap and it works great. I've been using
Google's Webmaster Tools to help make enhancements to my site. When I went
to submit my sitemap to Google, they asked for the URL to my map. Figuring
out the URL for a novice like myself is usually as easy as just hovering my
mouse pointer over a given link and reading the URL path on the Status Bar
at the bottom of the page. When I do this for my newly created NOF sitemap,
the only thing that shows up is the word 'javascript:go();'
At the following site;
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/docs/en/protocol.html Google talks
about a specific XML Sitemap Protocol. From what I gather so far, NOF's
javascript sitemap does not meet Google's requirements for submission...? I
was hoping generating and submitting a Sitemap to Google was going to be a
smooth and somewhat painless process but it doesn't appear to be headed in
this direction. Any words of wisdom from those of you who have gone before
me, would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,

You will need to create an xml site map (text based) for Google's web
crawlers to index.
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
Then, use your favorite ftp program (Cute, Ws_ftp, etc) to upload your
Google friendly site map to your root directory. Then go back and tell
Google where it is. Usually this path: http://www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml

Thanks Nancy O...I created my XML sitemap but now I'm not certain how to
accomplish the upload process including selecting my root directory. Is
this a function I can accomplish via NOF or do I go directly through my web
host outside of NOF? How do I go about adding the map to my homepage...via
a text box with inserted HTML...? Do you know of a tutorial I can reference
to accomplish this process?
Thanks again,

There's no need to put your xml sitemap into NOF. Simply upload your site
map to the same place as your index.html page. I use 3rd party ftp software
for all my uploads. But if you have a control or admin panel with your host,
you could do it that way. Remember, this site map isn't for humans. It's
for Google's robots.
I find dedicated ftp apps to be superior to the ones built into NOF and
Dreamwever. At some point you will need one to manage files on your server.
Some ftp favorites:
WS_ftp http://www.wsftp.com/
Cute FTP http://www.globalscape.com/products/ftp_clients.aspx
File-zilla http://filezilla-project.org/ (free open source)

Don't suppose you could point me towards some sort of tutorial or
publication that would help me understand what ftp is, how its used and why
I might find dedicated ftp apps preferable over those found within NOF...?
Thanks for the clarification regarding the XML map and its purpose, I was
obviously confused.
