I use Freefind.com. Very flexible and customizable. The free version has
discrete text ads at the top of search page. The paid version has no ads.

How it works - sign-up for an account. Search results can be domain
specific, all the web or a combination. You choose which version you want
and then paste the code they provide you with into your master border/s and
republish your site. Tell Freefind to index your site (includes pdfs).
This can take up to 24 hours the first time you do this. They send you an
email when their spiders have completed indexing. You also get weekly stats
showing you how many searches were performed and on which keywords.

Yes. I like Zoom very much. I agree with you re Google search. Recently,
I was on a website that uses Google search. Found it very disconcerting.

We use romancart which has a free search facility but the url for each
product has to be input and as we have 962 products (!), it would be a
mammoth task!

So need to buy something. Did use Google search, which worked well but that
also comes with a web search which would redirect the customers away from
our site to competitors. So want to avoid anything like that.

Any ideas gratefully accepted. Someone has mentioned Wrensoft zoom to me.
Anyone used it?

Thanks in anticipation

I've yet to see a customer that was happy with a search showing his/her
competitors *above* their own info (or anywhere, for that matter). IMHO
Google's free search is only good for a site that is non-commercial. Even
then, they have to be pretty strapped to be happy with it.

Also - I've seen Google take 2 weeks+ to remap a site after changes. Dead
links take people browsing right to another site....

Thanks Nancy. I put Freefind on earlier and it works very well! I've got a
few different master borders though so have to sort out. I need to find
somewhere to blend it in on my home page though - have so much packed on
there.

I'm using the free version which I've tried on several terms and is great.
However, the paid version works out quite a bit more expensive than
Wrenzoom, but so far so good with the free version.

Thanks again!
