scripting errors - help please!
Mon, 17 Mar 2008 17:15:36 -000
trying to find a solution to my newsletter problem, which is to do a page in
NOF and copy the code into another application to bulk send emails. First,
tried copying the code from one of my pages and sending test mail but get
scripting errors 'object expected' , the text is way too big, the pictures
aren't showing (did allow for them to be downloaded!). What have I done
wrong?

here is the url - very, very grateful for any help! this newsletter is
driving me round the bend.

Hi Lorraine,
I don't know if this answers the validation error issue, but I do the same
as you - create my newsletters in NOF, publish the page locally, then copy
the code to my bulk mailing program. However, I use straight html (not css)
and use +/- for my font size. I also upload any photos/graphics to my server
and use the insert-html function to insert a direct link to the graphic.
Hope this helps.
Janice

Thanks Janice. That does help. I read somewhere not to use css for
newsletters. When you say you upload photos/graphics to the server, do you
mean you upload them to the images file on the same level as the site no.
you're using and point the code to the pictures in the file? But the
pictures show in the email correctly, not just a link? I think I've 'got'
it. I'm going to try and get hold of Serif support tomorrow (no joy all day
today) - I have uploaded the newsletter but the extension is a problem as
it's a Serif wpp file. If I can put a link on the newsletter about viewing
the web version, I might just get on with that for now but doesn't solve the
problem of using the bulk mailing.

The validation problem is on the site though and not with css - I don't
think that means very much having read the posts on css validation errors
(but at least something is right!) but there is a problem with character
encoding - I don't know which one I should choose - hopefully someone will
point me in the right direction.

Also, maybe using +/- would solve my site font size problems quicker than
going through the laborious process of changing all the text, maybe...
Should have tested all these things properly in the first place! and saved
myself a whole load of time.

Thanks again.

Lorraine

If you've got Serif Pageplus then you should be able to send from that or
have I got my Kni**ers in a twist there??

Thanks, Ian. 've got Page Plus but never used it - must look at it. What I'm
trying to do is use the sales cart application that does it all for you
(sends sequences of emails to customers at whatever intervals) and I need to
paste html code in there that works. Mine comes out all over the place. Have
to decide whether to use the format I like in Serif and take longer to send
out manually or go for the quicker (in the end when finally sorted!) option.
