Strong = bold text. Em = emphasis or italic text within a paragraph.
Neither will increase your SEO standings on their own. They should be used
appropriately.
SEO gives highest weight to Page Title (in the meta), H1, then h2, then
h3..., then content, content, content. H1 should contain main keyword
relevant to your site/page content. h2 is a sub of h1, h3 is a sub of h2.
Think of your site as a book. I try to limit myself to 1 h1 per page. Then
as many h2 or h3 subheadings as appropriate. Product descriptions should be
paragraph text.

as there is no 'strong' option for text (for SEO purposes), can I assume em
is just as good?
I'm trying only to use 1 H1 (although sometimes need 2) 2 H2's a few H3's
(in the process of changing to em. if that is the right option) and some
H4's and H5's. Because I have a lot of pictures of products on each page, I
was using H3's to describe the product but going to change to em. Is that
the right thing to do? - so google is more likely to pick it up.
Really appreciate a quick answer before I embark on changing hundreds of
text boxes! Sorry to keep asking questions but I'm learning and as soon as
I've moved house, I've found someone who can give me some tuition...
Thanks anybody who might be around!

I can appreciate the need to get your site recognised on google, but not
sure if you approaching this from the right angle. I f someone finds you
through google they may be put off by a very busy site, your font sizes are
all over the place and there is a lot of empty space on the home page.
I know you're not asking for comments on the site, but you don't want to put
off your potential customers. I see there is plenty of competition for you
out there.
You can verify you site through google and they send you a verification meta
tag to use "verify-vl"
I have not used SEO much yet and still get a high rating from google
searches, I'm only an information site and not selling. I am leaving Nof
and switching to DW, but two sites I have are still in Nof so will still use
these boards for a while yet.
Your site cannot be validated (not even a failure) through
http://validator.w3.org/ this has something to do with the encoding, which
on the sites I have built is iso-8859-1, not sure why yours is utf-8.
Western European would seem to be the default of both Nof and DW.

Thanks for the quick reply Rosalind. ~Which browser are you using? In IE7,
Mozilla & Safari - I've got a little bit of white space because of the
freefind search form which I need to have. I've found someone to help me and
as soon as I can, I will get his help. I've had a good long chat with him
and basically to the average browser, the site looks o.k. There are problems
when you try to save the page. It used to validate fine - not sure what I've
done to change that! I did verify it properly through Google a while ago.
Trouble is, we're selling things and SEO is all important and it is working!
So that is the main thing at the moment - there is LOADS of competition! I
don't particularly like the look of it, especially the home page (yes way
too busy but at the moment needs to be) but all those little odd bits of
text get picked up for FREE on google, which is why I keep putting them in.
If I wasn't selling, I would do it quite differently. I'd love to have
Dreamweaver but I find NOF9 great and I haven't used a quarter of the
features yet. Also got Serif 10, which I've used for my newsletter.
I thought I was using Western European - changed it a few times a while ago
as got symbols next to the £ sign. I'll have another look. Are you in the
U.K. and using Western European? Another thing I need to sort out. Can't
wait until I move and can start learning!
But getting back to the original question, do you think I should use one or
two headings and use em. text for the rest of the picture captions etc.?
Thanks. Don't know where everyone has disappeared to!

Firefox is my default, would not go back to IE, but still have IE7 and Opera
installed, but not put the Windows version of Safari on yet. Things tend to
work perfectly in Firefox and then go slightly awry in IE7. Nothing major
and it all validates XHTML. Think Nof 10 is the first to validate HTML, the
others have a few faults. Notice that your SEO deosn't want to know at the
moment on the homepage.
You don't have a google verify meta tag, I've looked. I had to change mine
as it didn't verify when I redid the site in DW, all OK now, just waiting
for the old pages to be removed from Google.
I'm in Madeira (part of Portugal) using Western European, two sites hosted
with 1&1.co.uk (in Germany!!) and one hosted here, which is the DW site.
If you can use subdomains on your own site, build a new site with Nof and
get that to work and then transfer it over, I find it much easier to rebuild
than try and repair. It is also much easier to use a seperate ftp client.
Sorry I can't help with the em, I have used points for text, not strictly
correct, gets complicated. I have to use a largish font as I have a church
site and the main users are elderlyish!! Also have site problems myself and
I avoid small text. I have to scroll to the right slighly to see the whole
screen. I'm one of the last people using a 15" CRT. Looking at a 22"
to
replace it.
