OK. I am A+ & Network+ certified. I don't work in the field (yet) and am
pretty "good" (7/10, four stars, so/so etc.) with figuring things out
on
computers, but by no means a natural born genius or geek (although I beg
to differ, haha). Anyway, I bought the self study kit for Novell CNA (on
OES), bought and built the OES server and setup my workstation to log in
and everything...Tested a bunch of scenerios for server failure, IP issues
etc. just to practice. I ran through the workbook front to back three
times (first time to just read it and to understand concepts etc., second
time to memorize terms etc., and third time to practice all excercises on
server and workstation). I just downloaded a practice test program to try
and study for a little bit since I am going from full time job to part
time and using those free half days at home to study for a month before
going back to school full time for one year program for MCDST, Linux+, and
a couple other smaller courses and I want to have the extra 'CNA' title as
a "one up" on the other grads...Plus, I figure the A+ & Net+
should help
me too (I think...I hope!).
Anyway, my question - how difficult is the CNA exam? I mean, for all you
CNE folks, ya, it is probably nothing (piece of cake right?) but for
someone who really has not done much with this stuff (especially Linux,
man, that stuff is wierd to me since all I know is Windows, but I want to
learn Linux). Is there anything else you would suggest I do before taking
the exam? Anything? I am freaked out about going in there and paying
that much money just to write it and getting it all totally backwards and
wrong. Thoughts go through my head like, "what if I am way off in my
thinking", or "I don't understand like I thought I did". What if
I
realize Novell is not what I think it is and I have wasted all this time
and money on a server, the OES license, training kit, training test,
etc...? I guess the price for the exam is very minor compared, but it
seems like such a milestone I don't want to fail it or come close to
a "low" score, I want to ace this thing...I want to get a job in the
IT
field as a service desk/help desk analyst position where I already work
(retail head office in Canada) but am looking for more direction here I
guess...They use Novell, but I don't know if I should go full out on that
for CNE too or just call it off at MCDST for Windows...? I know some of
this really does not apply to Novell or the forum, but if you can provide
some words of wisdom, I'm all ears (I've heard you have two ears and eyes
and one mouth for a reason...).
Thanks (for ANYTHING)

There is not a CNA exam for OES. Not that I know of. The OES course has
no exam associated with it. The CNA exam will be for Netware 6.5 not for
Linux. Or the Linux practicum exam for the CLP. Do you have an exam
number that you are thinking of taking so we can be aof a little more help.

What Self Study Kit did you purchase? The 3016 or the 3059??
If you acquired the 3016 that is the course that the CNA is based on. The
exam is based on the content from the student kit, so if you rad the student
kit did the exercises then yuo should be prepared enough for the exam.
As Andrew indicated if you acquired the 3059 Deploying OES, there is no exam
based on this course therefore no certification.
If have any questions feel free. I'm also in Canada so be happy to help a
fellow Canuck!
