What is the general feeling of confidence in Novell's long term
viability and direction of the identity biz ?
I'm getting ready to propose a big system based on IDM 3.5.1
I'm a Novell guy from way back, and I feel good about the product
(IDM/eDir). In fact, I've already got a 'proof of concept' system up and
running. But I know alot of folks have left Novell in the last couple of
years, and I want to poll the fine folks here before I look to commit
our organization to this path.
TIA

IMO Novell is very strong in the identity management business.

One might even be inclined to call them a leader in it.

According to Gardner, Novell is in the leading quadrant for Identity
management. Beside, Novell's pricing is extremely competitive compared to
their big competitors (e.g. those competitors that offer a similarly
completely set of connectors).

I have a simple perspective on it. Netware is dead.
Actually, I think if OES/Linux continues getting better I think they
will eventually regain a much better reputation. The only thing I hate
to see is them shun the small business groups (which I actually don't
really think they are doing as bad as I once did).
The only worry I have (and I don't worry about it anymore) is that
Novell might someday be bought out by a company like IBM who will
basically destroy the products they have created.
With that said I really think Novell has a long life left with it. I
think they have much better direction as far as products and competing
with Microsoft than they ever have. I think their marketing still
sucks, but even that is getting better.
