No, it does work. It just doesn't work fast as some would like or with
100% XP compatibility.
How many Windows 98 programs worked 100% on XP? How many 3.1 programs
worked on 98? The concept of working has a much broader definition than
something simply personal in nature. Sometimes a bit of compatibility
must be sacrificed for progress. I'll finish this by pointing to the
NetWare to Linux move.

We're not talking about being compatible with XP. How many apps are
written just to work with XP? Very few, if any. Usually they are
2000/XP, yet Microsoft completely changed things around to make them
"better". Not sure how anything is better. So Vista has
incompatibilities with software, incompatibilities with hardware, and on
top of that is documented to have various performance issues. And I don't
just mean being a "resource hog." I mean problems in how its
networking
actually functions.

Those were completely different architectures, 3.x->9.x or 9.x->2000/XP.
There is no reason for 2000/XP apps to not work on Vista.

So what progress has been made in Vista? Is it more reliable? Is it more
secure? Does it allow users to be more productive? There is nothing in
Vista that indicates "progress" other than increasing the rankings of
Steve Ballmer & Bill Gates on the Forbes list of richest people in the
world.
