| Hardware recommendation for a new Developer Workstation |
 |

My old box is worn out, a new one is scheduled. I need a few
recommendations what components to put in. I mainly develop in Java
(Eclipse) for J2EE Servers but wouldn't mind occasional excursion to RCP
and Mono development. For some legacy stuff I need VMWare and Win32
So my status/questions in detail -- all in the context: well suited for
SUSE Linux.
- What motherboard / chipset (I plan to have at least 4 GB ram)?
-- Subquestion: is ther a mobo for a small form-factor case?
- Does 64Bit make sense?
- Processor: Intel or AMD Dual Core
- What HDU: SATA, SCSI?
- Would a RAID(1-5??) make sense - What controller?
- Which graphic card (I want all that eye candy) - I want to run at least
2 monitors?
- I guess NIC is no longer a topic since they are on board?
- Make of the DVD Writer?
- What printer (I love my Canon 850i, so I'll stick with Canon if
possible) or combi (Print/Fax/Scan)?
;-) stw
