I am installing it as completely new test server. No trees or forrests
involved. It will be the forrest root if you like.
I am using a set of trial cd's I received during a foundations of Novell
training course.
It was recommended that I unload then reload TimeSync but this only caused
the process to restart. Someone else then advised me that it should
realise it is not in a tree and eventually sync with itself, but it
doesn't. (I left it for ages)
It was also reccomended that I change something in one of the startup
files to use a different variable to sync the time but I didnt get a good
enough explanation of that to try it.
Thanks

OK, try this. Install the server disconnected from the network.
During the install be sure to click the advanced button to be able to
specify the time source.
IIRC the screen we're looking for is under the advanced button when
you do select the time zone.
Be sure to select 'Single' as the time server type and don't configure
any time source. This will cause the server to take time from the
hardware clock. This can of course be changed once the server is installed.
