There is a variety of the 1808 U.S. half cent that has one of the 8s made
from an 8 punch and the other from two applications of the 0 punch used to
create the fraction 1/200 on the reverse. I guess when you're a die cutter
you do what you have to do. Neat coin!

Seven is the luck number in the Wester Hemisphere, but in the orient
eight is the number of prosperity. This is my latest addition to my
collection of unusual eight variants. |

This is the most common variety of the 1808 half cent, the other two
actually being overdates (1808/7). You should be able to buy one in Fine-12
for about a hundred bucks. There are usually several examples to choose
from on eBay at any given moment. If you go that route, be sure to choose
one that has nice color, surfaces, and rims - in my view, those are more
important than sharpness, as a VG or even a nice Good will still show the
"Crazy Eights" to advantage. Good luck in your quest!
