| GA 2.0.4 Install creates no useful objects |
 |

OK, I ran the install. it says it completed the process successfully
AND created objects on the desktop. And, sure enough, there is a folder
on the desktop for OpenOffice.org.2.0.
BUT, that folder contains ONLY:
* A folder "Templates"
- that contains a "Wizard" folder
-- that contains a folder "Letter"
--- that contains 23 folders
---- that each contains ten "Letter..." files.
* A file: read1st.txt
* A file: README.TXT
* A file: LICENSE.TXT
AND NOTHING MORE!
Where's the program(s)????
Looking in the directory that was built, there are some subdirectories:
> \OPENOFFICE.ORG.2.0
> NAME SIZE DATE TIME ATTRS
> ------------------------------ ------- -------- ------ -----
> help <DIR> 5-30-07 11:37p ....

And, in the PROGRAM directory, there are 400+ files, mostly DLLs and a
few EXEs and some other files that appear to be something useful. But,
there are no program OBJECTS anywhere that I can find.
So, what's the problem?

Isn't it interesting... A warning about USER=name that appears to be
rather meaningless, at least as far as a one-user system, but a missing
component that means a worthess install is never mentioned.
BTW, I thought I had downloaded the English Language component. And, I
actually watched its progress. So, I assumed it was there. It appears
that it just never stored the file. Looking back, when I was reviewing
the files, etc., on the Mensys site, I tried to SaveAs for the
Read1st.Txt file. Did not save it. So, I tried just downloading it
using Shift-Click. Same result. After about six tries, I left the
Mensys site, returned and Re-Logged In. SaveAs still did not work, but
the Shift-Click finally did.
Anyhow, I did the download of the language file again; made sure it was
there this time; reinstalled and it appears to have worked OK this time.
Thanks, Robin, for the tip. I'd have never found the solution. Someone
should really consider a modification to the install to stop the process
if there is not at least one language file there.

On a semi-related topic: the objects in my folder are displaying ugly
icons after installation. If I open the properties, go to the Icon tab,

I had the same. Problem turned out to be that I hadn't downloaded the
NLS .wpi (in my case OOo204-en.wpi). You need that one as well as the
base, bin and common .wpi packages for a successful install.
As I discovered after the event, it's mentioned in the readme and I
hadn't seen it. Even so, I can't really understand why the install is
allowed to proceed without it, or at least without a warning, though I
suppose there must be a reason.

Using FireFTP I got a msg saying there were too many users. Next morning
it was fine again.
