| Printing special symbols in OOo 2.0.4 |

I often need to include the permille symbol (looks a bit like 0/00) in
text documents. This was never a problem with WordPro, nor back in the
old days when I used WordPerfect running under WINOS2, but I can't get
the symbol to print in OOo Writer documents. Only a few font sets
include the permille symbol(e.g. DejaVu, Lucida, the old WP Typographic
symbol set). If selected these all show the correct symbol on-screen,
but in the printed document the symbol appears as a question mark, an
open box or a blank space. This is the case when printing from a
standard LaserJet or a Postscript LaserJet. Does anybody know a font
that includes permille and WILL print correctly? Alternatively is there
a tweak I can apply to OOo's settings that will allow non-standard
symbols to print correctly?

You could try creating PDFs in OpenOffice and then print those. Should work
better, especially when you have font problems.

Well, it's certainly not great but it's a workaround I can live with. You can
also try font replacement to get this issue sorted out, IIRC.
BTW, am I the only one that cannot get text drag and drop done in OOo/2? That
would be much more important to me.

Andreas,
Yes, I've tried this and it works, but it isn't really a satisfactory
solution, is it? OOo ought to be able to print everything that's
displayed on screen, or are the days of WYSIWYG over?

A font alone is not enough, you have to find the codepage which will
print it. Try 1004 as second codepage. With chcp you can change
codepage. I was lucky with cp 852, Hungarian cp. But i even had to
change the country code to 36 in config.sys.
Good luck.
