Open Office 2.4 beta 1 is released. I downloaded it yesterday and have
tried it a little. As far as I can see it works as well as the 2.04. So
far there don't seem to be any obvious new features, as eg a drag text
feature. I know they are working on a solution to that, which is aimed to
be implemented in the 2.4 GA realase.

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service   http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel <feedbackDESPAM@DESPAMos2voice.org>

"OpenOffice.org is a multiplatform and multilingual office suite and
an open-source project." For more general information about this see
http://www.openoffice.org

There is a developers build of Beta1 of Open Office.org for eCS-OS/2
for those with an active OpenOffice.org Support Agreement for
eComStation and OS/2. You have to Login thru the Mensys site (
http://shop.mensys.nl/indexuk.html ) and find it under your Downloads.

For more information about the Open Office.org for eComStation and
OS/2 Support Agreement see http://www.ecomstation.com/openoffice

This Beta is available only in English. This build is based on the
2.4.0 m2 source code of OpenOffice.org which is newer than the general
release version available for other platforms which is at 2.3.1, which
is why it is listed as a developer Snapshot. From my limited
experience with this build, if you already have OO.org 2.0GA
installed, this beta installs to a different directory and you can use
both, just not at the same time.

** Features **
 - Support for XWP/eWPS sliding menu hilite (requires XWorkPlace 1.0.8
or eCS 2.0 RC4)
 - Support for clipboard bitmap formats and unicode text.
 - Support for mouse wheel.
 - Support for WPS integration via seperate package (OOoWPS101.WPI)
 - FT2: this release supports the FreeType2 font engine for better
text rendering.
 - QUICKSTART: quickstart has been implemented eComStation and OS/2;
when enabled in
OOo option dialogs, a shadow of your quickstart WPS icon object
will be
   created in the startup folder.
 - NLS: multiple NLS versions can be installed, you can change the
language with:
Tools -> Options -> Language settings -> User Interface (Though as
noted above, English is
currently the only available NLS choice)

Requirements for this beta include:
WarpIn 1.0.17 (Available on the OOo download page)
UniClip (available as uclip-0_2_2-os2.wpi on the OOo download page)
LibC 0.6.3 (Available on the Netlabs FTP:
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/libc )
Innotek Font Engine (Included with eComStation 1.2r or newer
 400MB disk space

See the read1st.txt file for installation instructions as well as any
other requirements and known issues.
