Visual difference between OOo OS/2 and OOo Win

Hi,

The following pic illustrates this small nuisance in OOo for OS/2:

Foreground OOo Calc is 2.4b1 on OS/2

Background OOo Calc is 2.3 Win in a VPC Guest

The same Workplace Sans TrueType font is used in both as UI font.

On OS/2 the tabs (and their title) are much smaller in size, and
therefore harder to read.

Why? (And am I the only one who does not like that?)

Kind regards,

Beside the size difference what would annoying me is the aliased font on OS/2.
The background OOo uses a sharp font. Looks like a proper bitmap font while the

foreground OOo uses a washed out aliased font.

I don't have access to OOo and I'm not a font expert in any case. But are you
really sure the background image do not use a clear bitmap font like the usual
win apps do? Maybe WarpSans for OOo in OS/2 would be the better choice for
menues.

Font aliasing is necessary for web browsing I think, but for all other things I

prefer WarpSans and System VIO

Herwig, try this.
http://www.microsoft.com/typography/ClearTypePowerToy.mspx

This will allow you to adjust the ClearType engine to your preferences, and
once done, really makes for a nice reading experience.

Or, if you dont want it fuzzy at all, put ClearType into "Standard"
mode, it
will alias but only just barely. Its what I prefer to use as well, its
crisp, but not shitty looking.

The background is a WinXP using the same WorkplaceSans TrueType font as
the foreground OS/2.

Yes, definitely, same font in both windows. On WinXP ClearType is turned
off. Too fuzzy for my taste.

WorkplaceSans is the recommended font for OOo in OS/2 (as WarpSans
cannot be turned by 90° AFAIK).

That's more or less a question of taste, WorkplaceSans is otherwise a
nice compromise: Not really fuzzy when antialialized, but also not jagged...
