That's what this option has always done. I think they've just renamed it
to make that a little more obvious to users who might have been assuming
that 'emptying' trash was actually deleting mails, especialy IMAP users.
One thing I've always wanted is the ability to chain the Opera 'commands'
that you can assign to buttons, menus and hotkeys but in a way that the
next command is only executed once the previous command has signaled it's
finished running. This way you could use something like "Empty spam &
Empty trash" and have it empty everything in one click, but unfortunately
Opera runs the commands without waiting. I think Opera 9.5 will introduce
the ability to delay the running of a command by a specified number of
milliseconds, but it's not the same (or as reliable) as being able to wait
however long a task takes before moving on to the next, especially if
you're doing something to mail on an IMAP server and have absolutely no
idea how long the next command needs to wait.
But I suppose allowing Opera commands to broadcast and listen for events

ive just moved to O9.5 and i see the mail has changed to a different
format but why has the option to empty SPAM changed to move spam to
trash?SPAM is SPAM surely a simple mouse click to get rid of it is better
than moving it and then deleting it.sorry if this topic has already been
discussed.
