| Customizing using opera6.ini |

Hi
After customizing and taking off the personal bar I copy the
opera6.ini file so I should be able to re-use this configuration. I
then put back the personal bar and use Opera normally.
However I should be able to use my opera6.ini file in the command line
to get back the setup with no personal bar. The documented command is
"C:\Program Files\Opera\Opera.exe" /settings
C:\from\config\opera6.ini
Problem is that it does not work.
None of the settings that is saved in the file is respected.
Also if I edit the opera6.ini directly it does not get respected.
Am I doing something wrong?

Does...
opera:about
show
Paths
Preferences C:\from\config\opera6.ini
If so then...
You need to make this alternate opera6.ini use alternate a
toolbar.ini file. And any other alternate INI files you wish to use
exclusively with that alternate configuration file.

Guy, thanks for your help.
Yes, preferences is pointing to C:\from\config\opera6.ini.
At this point what I am trying to do is not any speciallized tools
bars but rather starting Opera with or without certain tool bars. For
instance I would like to control if Opera will start with the persoanl
bar showing or not. I see that what controls this in the ini file is
PersonalBar Alignment=0. In the file that is saved it has this setting
because I just copied it from the opera6.ini that Opera modified when
I used the Opera GUI to turn it off.
I have know idea why this isn't working

Just to add futher info. the following does work.
I copied the entire \opera\profile folder to operaold\profile then
made changes using opera gui where the personal bar was hidden which
worked and opera did hide the personal bar. Then I renamed the current
opera\profile folder to operanew\profile and renamed the operaold
\profile to opera\profile making opera use the old config. When I ran
opera it did show the personal bar as that was the way it was then and
basicly it worked properly through renaming the entire folder
structure but not just pointing it to the ini file.

Data on the placement of the various toolbars is stored in the copy of
toolbar.ini in your profile\toolbars\ folder. You could (inside Opera)
create multiple toolbar setups using the normal Prefs (Tools > Preferences
> Advanced > Toolbars). It is also possible to create to completely
separate profiles, but that means also having separate bookmarks and
cookies and history etc.
What you describe in your further postings in this thread looks like a
recipe for losing data and/or thoroughly confusing Opera or yourself. You
should check 'Help > About Opera' to see if all file paths are still sane.
