It shows addresses used in that current session.

Old addresses - how to omit?

At the right end of the url address field there is a down button.
It reveals some (not all?) previous addresses.
Is there any way to omit this? I find it superfluous.

( I know that "delete private data" will remove the addresses.)

Huh?

No. It shows the addresses you typed or pasted in the address field.

No! Mason is not talking about the trash can, but about the address field.
That's the one thing practially no-one wants to remove fom their toolbar.

Yep. The addresses are stored in the file opera.dir in your Profile
directory, you could try making this file read-only (after clearing it
from Delete private data and closing Opera).

I did. It didn't. "opera.dir" read only is not replaced. It stays
empty. BUT the addresses still drop down from the address field.

I tried the same on vlink4.dat and global.dat. No change.

Forget it. Not important. Thanks for your attention anyway.

These are addresses you manually typed/pasted in address field before,
they are stored in the file \Opera\profile\opera.dir.

It is easy to get rid of it:
1. Paste "opera:config#User Prefs|Max Direct History Lines" in the
addrsee
field, press Enter, then set the value to "0".
2. Remove the file \Opera\profile\opera.dir.

Note: The value of "Max Direct History Lines" will change to
200(default)
once you open Preferences> Advanced> History and click OK. Already
reported it bug-255737.

Best regards, Lin.
