I recently switched to Win XP from 98 and admit to be a bit lost
(overwhelmed).
My problem is Shockwave player (operator error). Flash player works well.
Originally, there was Shockwave 9.0 so I went for the update 10.
I uninstalled Shockwave 9.0 via Adobe's uninstaller, then installed the
fresh download of 10, and installed it. Problem: it didn't take.
I've uninstalled and re-installed umpteen times and it still doesn't take
and I still have 9.0.
Further, when I go to Adobe's Shockwave test page, a pop-up tells me that I
need to repeat the process which I have another umpteen times but still
it's a no go.
The only place on the system that NPSWF32.dll (Version 9.0) appears is
under Opera where it should be.
I've overlooking something for I've never had this much of a problem before
but for the life of me I can't see where. It's not that difficult - he
says. ;-)
I don't know if I've switched something in XP that I shouldn't have,
deleted something important, or what, but it's a possibility.
Suggestions, advice, an old computer bat so I can beat it into submission
would be appreciated.
Ciao,

Gene,
Sorry for the late response...but hope you resolved your Shockwave plugin
issue by now.
If not, here's some things I'd check:
1) Ensure your Opera plugin-ignore.ini file is not blocking Shockwave.
2) Scan your system for NP32DSW.dll and ShockwavePlugin.class (not
NPSWF32.dll), and copy both files to the Opera plugins folder.
3) Check the [File Types] section of your profile\opera6.ini file for a
"application/x-director" entry. If not found, then Opera did not
detect
Shockwave upon installation. Perhaps a re-install of Opera would pick it
up, or you could manually add it (not recommended, btw).
FWIW, on my system, Opera found the Shockwave plugin in my Firefox plugin
folder:
application/x-director=0,,C:\Program Files\Mozilla
Firefox\Plugins\np32dsw.dll,Shockwave for Director,dcr,dir,dxr,|Shockwave
Movie (*.dir;*.dxr;*.dcr)
4) Optionally, add the "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10"
folder to
Opera's plugin path setting: opera:config#UserPrefs|PluginPath then restart
Opera.

Nope. It's one that still requires a manual edit, and is rarely (if ever),
accessed by users. So if you've never touched it, then don't bother looking
for or examining its contents -- since Shockwave Director won't be listed in
there unless you manually put it there.

Good luck.

Quite all right. Thankfully, I happened to mis-click here. Nope, still
with me - rather not with me which is the problem.
JAVA - works.
Macromedia - works
Shockwave - pfft.
Opera, aside from the ever-present IE, is the only browser here on Win
XP.
Aha, didn't know about "ShockwavePlugin.class" - could be a reason.
I'd presume that the Opera plugin-ignore.ini is controlled via either
"Preferences" or Tools -> drill until found?
Have saved this to file and will give it a shot. I'll let you know the
results.
Thanks.

Lee,
This is driving me bonkers. Never have I had so much trouble but enough of
the whine.
I'm either downloading the wrong thing, putting it where it doesn't belong,
etc. So, if you'd be so kind, and have the time, take me from the git-go,
step-by-step, like a kindergartner, I'd be more than appreciative.
Apologies for being a pain and thanks for the help.
Ciao!
