Java wont start
Wed, 31 Jan 2007 13:17:10 +090
I can't seem to get java ot work with opera on my machine...japanese
windows with xp

I uninstalled and reinstalled java, and java works fine in Explorer. I
keep adding it ot my preferences in opera, and it tells me it needs ot
install java...before it would do nothing, but when I restarted it would
be unchecked again.

any clues?

thanks in advance

Try this:

In Opera, goto Tools> Advanced> Plug-ins to view opera:plugins. Do you
see
any Java plugins listed? If so, they should be removed, then restart Opera.
Opera doesn't need these legacy Java plug-ins to work anymore.

If you goto Help> About Opera, do you see a Java version listed? Mine
reads: "Sun Java Runtime Environment version 1.5"

From a command prompt window, what do you get when you type "java
-version"
(sans quotes)? Hopefully, you see something similar (but not necessarily
exact) to:

   java version "1.5.0_09"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_09-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_09-b03, mixed mode)

If not, then you should goto www.java.com or java.sun.com and
download/reinstall the latest version.

Also, when visiting a page that requires Java, such as
http://darkfish.com/checkers/index.html, press [F12] and ensure "Enable
Java" is checked ON.

Finally, if you have ever modified site preferences for a domain,
right-click on the page in question, select "Edit site
preferences...", goto
the "Content" tab, and ensure "Enable Java" is checked ON.

Hope something here helps.
