A couple of complaints. Firstly.....the 'updated conversation'
notification when using gmail (web based) still displays but when you
click on the link it doesn't update the conversation. Also, if you
scroll down the page whilst the 'updated conversation' message is
being displayed the notification area just seems to 'smudge' down the
page...
I suspect this might be a java problem? I've re installed the latest

It's more likely to be Javascript than Java, they're two separate things
that just sound alike.
gMail relies heavily on Javascript and in the past has used various
Javascript functions that Opera didn't support. So Opera added support for
them but then Google would update the gMail site and start using other
functions that Opera doesn't support. This cycle has gone round a few
times and is probably what you're seeing going on at the moment. However,
Opera 9.50 is a significant upgrade (including a new Javascript
interpretor) and includes new features implemented specifically with gMail
in mind so hopefully it won't have any problems. It's currently in public
beta testing so there are still some bugs that need to be ironed out
before it formally replaces 9.25, but you could always try installing it
alongside your normal version and test it. If you still see the problems
it would help to post a bug report.
