How do you get Opera to play Windows Media and Real Player files? They wont
play in Opera but work fine with IE 7.

Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Depends on the site. I subscribe
to a site that has audio files in Windows Media and when I try to run the
file I get this error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support
the
file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the
file."

The file is called stream.asf. The files open just fine in IE. Quicktime
files in other sites work OK.

You mean playing in embedded plugins, or opening a separate player window?
Both should 'just work', depending on how the site offers the media files,
if you've installed Windows Media Player and Real Player in the normal way
and didn't disable plug-ins.

Followup: I searched through the Opera help online but the information must
be hopelessly out of date. The files in the Windows Media and Real
directories that the help suggested that I copy to the Opera plugin
directory don't exist on my system. The information must apply to XP or an
older system, not 64 bit Vista.

Unfortunately I cant. It’s a pay site and you need a password. (Not porn.
Its RushLimbaugh.com). I did find something called the Windows Media Firefox
plugin, installed it, and some streaming media content now works - for
example from CBC News. But not the stream.asf files from Rush Limbaugh.
