They don't play for me either. mplayer trys to play them but just get
bails. This could be my problem, since I run Gentoo and this distro
allows you to compile ALL packages with user settings/options.

1. Does the sound play when you try it with Firefox?

2. What plugin / application have you assigned to midi / mid files?

3. Do any of the midi / mid files at this link play (audio) for you?

Good luck.

Hi, thanks for response.
I possibly was a little short with my question.
I am using Ubuntu 7.10, Opera 9.27. Starting Opera and loading a webpage
with *.mid files it asks
for importing plug-ins. Did that as requested, no problems. Next time the
page opens but still no
midi. Btw kmid also does not play midi's, just opens and does nothing.

To 1. FF does not play midi's
To 2. Don't know, where to look for that?
To 3. No.

If I download this link i.e.:

wget http://www.piano-midi.de/midis/haydn/hay_40_1.mid

I can play the midi file with 'aplaymidi' -- had to install the
timidity++ package. I setup Opera to assign audio/midi file type to
'Open with Other Application'; set the application to aplaymidi and
when I click on http://www.piano-midi.de/midis/haydn/hay_40_1.mid the
sound plays.

I would be interested to know if your mplayer version can play the the
above link i.e.:

   mplayer http://www.piano-midi.de/midis/haydn/hay_40_1.mid

I asked the guy who coded mplayerplug-in, gecko-mediaplayer and
gnome-mplayer and he said:

Kevin DeKorte wrote:

| 2. xmms-timidity
| 3. compile mplayer with xmms-plugin support

Good luck.

Does mozplugger play 'music' when you go to the initial posters home
page?

    http://www.mydarc.de/dj1wm/index1.html

It doesn't for me -- but I don't read German either.

That's feature -- who wants to keep a browser up, just to listen to
'music' ;-)
