| hotkey/shortcut letter visual format? |

This suggestion is just to make searchbar a little easier to use, since
configging
the searchbar isn't flexible.
I only now noticed that a letter in the searchengine name includes the preceding
ampersand. i assume this is to allow us to select searchengine by
"hotkey" when
we pulldown the list in searchbar.
searchbar pulldown engine list could be improved: the "hot" letter is
not visually
detectable from letters in a searchengine name. so user will want to be able to
memorize the hotkey letter for each searchengine name. and this letter isn't
necessarily the same letter as the (initial) letter in the "keyword",
which also must
be memorized (though i wonder if there isn't an immeidate way to display this?
maybe when pulldown list, the quicksearch phrase can show at the end of the
engine name?)
example:
Ama&zon - amaz
(BTW, should my opera now be showing the "hot" letter visually
different? maybe
something is wrong with my install??)
i'm not feeling enough motivation to make screenshots,and upload.. but can do if
necessary...
===================================
IGNORE IF BORING:
a bit more detail in an example (see in two locations: searchbar pulldown and in
preferences, search (tab)). Look at Amazon engine in Preferences, Search (tab),
Edit... (button):
Notice opera's default enginename is Ama&zon. So when in browser's searchbar
pulldown list, the hotkey "z" will select Ama&zon.
Notice also that the keyword is also "z". (as installed)
But perhaps a user wants to add a favorite search enginame
"zzzitzz.com"
Naturally, user wants zzzitzz.com's hotkey and keyword to both be "z"
So user edits amazon:
Changes quicksearch keyword to "amaz".
But the pulldown hotkey (ampersand location) cannot be changed to
"amaz",
because hotkey must be only one letter(character). User may leave Ama&zon
hotkey as "z". But, then when later using searchbar while webbrowsing,
user will
need to press "z" twice to select zzzitzz.com
============================
Anyway, in attempt to reduce memorizatoin, user will perform annoyed juggling of
priorities when choosing the ampersand location within the enginename to change
the "quicksearch" "keyword". Also, resequencing engines is
not easy. i think this
is easiest by directly editing search ini in two pane text editor.
"swap" engines
values.
harder way to swap engines: edit in preferences, search (tab). process would
need
a cut n paste text file (or a multiclipboard utility?) to "swap"
engines values.
============================
disclaimer: i prefer using the mouse, so this hotkey quicksearch stuff doesn't
influence me.
