Email Client Additions

Email Client Additions
Thu, 13 Dec 2007 03:08:21 -050
I have two ideas:

1. Give the ability to sort and manage contacts into groups. I realize
there are folders, but groups of instances of contacts. This means that I
could have a single entry for a contact and they can appear in multiple
groups... sort of like mailing lists. A friend whom I work with could
appear in a 'clients' list, a 'close friends' list, an 'all friends' list,
an so forth. An ideal extension to this would be giving me the ability to
choose which email address is associated with that group, as many contacts
have more than one (primary/"Additional").

2. I'd like to be able to choose whether my signature appears ABOVE or
BELOW a reply to an email. As it stands, it appears at the bottom, and
there are many cases where I have to cut/paste it above. I realise that
there is some mechanism which allows the signature to change based on the
"From" address, but I'm sure something could be developed. Also on
this
point, the opportunity to remove the two dashes would also be nice. I use
the same closing lines for most business emails and it would be useful to
put them in a signature.

There you go.

I think it would be useful if you could add tags to records like you can
to files on Flicker or You Tube. So in the tags field of each contact you
could add any relevant words and then use these in searches. The idea
could also be used elsewhere in Opera, such as bookmarks or even emails.
The current Labels feature to flag an email as Important or whatever could
be replaced/enhanced with a text input field for tags. Not everyone would
use that but if the code was already there to make it work on the
bookmarks and contacts it may be a minimal effort to add it to the mail

That will never happen, as it flies in the face of email protocols. Do you
realise that when replying to a message, conforming mail clients are
supposed to remove everything following the original message's signature?

What you want with the templated closing lines is easily achieved by
"insert Note" (on the right-click menu in the compose window). THis
comes
fairly close to the "canned reply" function of some other mail
clients.

It's already there. The 'Notes' field in a Contact's poperties and the
'Description' in the Bookmark properties pretty much work this way. Enter
keywords in here and you can type them into the "Quick Find" at the
top to
return those entries. It isn't really necessary in email as there is a
"Quick Find" to do the same within filters and a search box at the top
of

I agree. But I still feel the need of a central repository where to see
(and use) *all* those which are available. It also avoid typos...
