According to an article on BetaNews, 22 percent of installs checked through the
Windows Genuine Advantage Program are showing up to be non-genuine. Here's the

Anecdotal evidence only, but I can't begin to tell you how often my genuine
copy of Windows has been deemed otherwise by WGA. They fail regularly, but
the copies deemed genuine pass only once.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Equally anecdotal: Never, never, have I had a failure with Windows, even when
I've been a witness to someone else's plain fraud. and I'm not even thinking of
somebody's abuse of a volume license.

I have, however, seen Adobe products behave badly.

You're surely correct in thinking these are not cancelling errors; there is
plain bias, but I don't think it would be too hard to adjust in analysis.

This appears to be based on an Information Week article, revised 24Jan to update
the data on false/positives. What really irks me about Information Week, and
this article in particular, is that there are no sources provided. There are
quotations attributed to David Lazar but no references. Who can tell if those
quotations were taken out of context? Was the information/quotes from a
Microsoft Press Release that I missed? An Email? A Telephone Interview? A Blog
posting? A message written in the Sky? Perhaps Loki passed along the
information to the author.

In case you missed it, here's the WGA Blog response on WGA false/positives.
