| Lost Address book and message will not open |

Hi,
My OE is not working anymore.
I lost the address book. When I try to open it I get the message
"OE unable to open the address book. The address book may not be installed
properly"
When I try to add a new contact, nothing happens.
When I try to open a message, I have an error message that says unable to
open the message.
From other threads I checked a few things
"sfc"did not work. A black sceen flashed and then nothing. (but then
it was
for 98)
The wab is not read only
I tried to open it but got the message "The address book has been locked by
another application. Please close the other application and try again
later"
I don't know what other application may have locked it.
I could not rename the wab.
Could it be because I changed my account to "user"?

Do you mean that you changed from an Admin to Limited User Account?
Then the problem could be that you don't have Windows permission to
access the WAB file.
If you change back to an Admin and it works again, that's your issue and
you'll need to adjust the permissions for the WAB file and the folder it
is to have read/write/create.

Thank you Michael for your reply.
Yes I changed from admin to user. I was browsing the site because I have a
problem with .net Framework and I saw that one should not use an admin
account on a daily basis. i am not sure I will keep it that way because it is
pretty annoying.
Anyway to come back to OE, I did a few things.
I checked my permissions and I had full control, so moving to a user status
did not change the permissions. So I removed the inherited option and copied
the permissions to maintain full control.
The wab file was not read only but I unchecked it in the folder properties.
I don't know what action did it but it works now.
Thanks for your help.
What I am worried about is that I may encounter the permission problem again
and have to individually correct a lot of folders and files.

The general recommendation is not to run as admin unless necessary, in
order to minimize any damage a virus might cause. Unfortunately, a lot
of programs don't work well unless you are an admin, or take a bunch of
tweaking.
I'm happy to hear that you got that working.
