Here is a quick easy tut for an unusual pic, that could be a conversation
piece, that can be either printed and framed or used as on a monitor as
wallpaper or video art, in a slide show.
First since this technique is a color fill you need a good mask with very
few shades of grey. The reason for this is so the drop shadow will have a
strong contrast with the lighter non-shadowed areas. Such as the to B&W
pictures attached. One is an inversion of the other.
Make and save mask a, to your hard drive. Click on new and type in the size
of picture you want to mask, then click on ok.
Fill the new pick with black paint and use the mask you just saved, and save
it as a png, i.e. face a.
Click on masks> invert and save the picture again but with a slightly
different name, such as face b and close.
Now reopen both pictures. If you are using the cubist face in this post,
place a copy of the b png into the clipboard, and paste it into the a.
Click on layers drop down menu, and make sure you are on layer 1.
Now click on Effects> 3d Effects> Cut Out.
For this tut, I have used settings:
Offset:
Horizontal 13 Vertical 13
Attributes:
Opacity 100 Blur 0
Select the colors for your shadow and light and click OK. Like I have done
with the third attachment.
You have now made a Cut Out Shadow.
The next step is to go to layer 2 and repeat this process.
Save this new picture with a different name such as double cut out face, and
take a good look at what you have made.
Even if you use different colors for both layers, such as the blue and red I
had used for this tut, unless you examine and separate the layers on a
computer, you will not be able to tell which is on the top and which is on
the bottom! Thus the optical illusion as with the attached final example!
