Many of you have been concerned in the past few days about the use of Kuno's
lessons in relation to the recent announcement.
Because of this the Annexcafé Admin team thought that it was important to
clarify the current situation and asked me to write this.

**************************

The position is that Kuno has not yet contacted us to ask us to stop using his
scripts and lessons. What we've had so far are 'messages' from a third party.
This is not sufficient for us to stop using Kuno's
lessons or scripts.

Until we hear directly from Kuno we still have his previous permissions to use
his lessons and scripts and materials. We will need to have a contact
from Kuno which is verifiable as being from him and not someone posing as him.
We acknowledge that the Lessons by him are copyrighted to him.
They are his unique creation.
No-one here has ever suggested that they are by anyone else or have not given
him credit for them.

This is my understanding of how scriptwriting rights work:

* It is considered very poor form to remove credits from scripts and this is
never a correct thing to do.
* A script cannot be copyrighted as it is based on recognised procedures in the
scripting language which cannot be taken as under copyright.
* No one has the right to stop people using these recognised procedures.
This would be like a painter trying to copyright the technique of using a brush
in a certain way. It can't be done.
* Free discussion about making scripts and teaching each other different
techniques in scriptwriting is always a legitimate activity.

As Kuno's lessons are freely available on the Internet I cannot see that he can
stop anyone using these or discussing them in a newsgroup even though he may
withdraw permission to distribute them.

If Kuno removes his lessons from the Internet, then it might be slightly
different but even then nothing would stop people from following these lessons
privately and posting their own scripts in the group and asking advice. No-one
can legislate for private study of materials which have been freely available on
the Internet.

The team are currently looking into the possibility of finding new lessons which
can be made available to everyone. This is an ongoing project.

In the meantime please try not to worry and continue your learning of
scriptwriting and making your beautiful creations. That is what's important
here.

Thank you Cary and Li and others for clearing this up. Big hugs to all of
you. You are doing a tremendous job and I for one appreciate it very much. I
will let others on this group speak for themselves, but I feel sure they are
as appreciative as I am.
Hugs,
LaVonne
