Lake Murray's clear blue water calls them loudly in the Spring
They think they'll catch a bass or two that make their fishing lines sing
Halfpast three sees them hit the floor; fish were jumping in their dreams
Sparkling waters beckon them, no time for coffee with cream.
That streamlined silver bird flies low; Highway Patrol can't catch up
they'll be there before sunrise hoping for a trophy to fill their cup.
Shivering in the wintry breeze they'll skim across the water
until they reach that fishing hole then sit there like some squatter.
Just two old men out for a lark, something to brag about
but they'll bring home a big one of that I have no doubt.
Though the biggest one got away the ones brought home aren't bad, they'll 
clean 'em up and cook 'em and talk of the fun they had.
They'll rest up a while, collect their wits, lament the one that got away,
practice their cast, spruce up their gear, and vow to catch him another day.
