AnnexCafe Guidelines - Annexcafe Script Writing Beginners Group Guidelines
March 12, 2007

Welcome to the group. Everyone is welcome here. Our goal is to
help others learn to write their own scripts for Outlook Express Stationery
using Connie's excellent and easy to understand lessons available here:

from this page:
http://www.annexcafe.com/newsgroups/
then annexcafe.script.writing.beginners
then, the charter page and homepage:
http://www.annexcafe.com/charter.cfm?id=1063
http://www.annexcafe.com/homepage.cfm?id=1063

On this group you will learn HTML and VBScripting step by step.
We are a happy little group of scriptors willing to help others
learn. All you need do is introduce yourself to the group as a newcomer,
giving as much or as little introductory information as you prefer. Then
just start with the
introduction and lesson #1. When you are ready post the lesson on this
group. If you need help with any lesson post a question on this group.
Please state in the subject line that it is a question and give the lesson
number you are working on and it
will be answered as quickly as possible. So be sure to check back under the
same thread in which you posted. To do that click on the + beside the
header of your original message. Then do each lesson consecutively - 1, 2,
3, etc., so you don't miss any new code. Each lesson builds on the ones
before it.

The first rule of this group is that everyone have fun while learning. We
all appreciate kind comments and constructive suggestions. No one has to
like another person's works, but we can always find something good to say
about it whether we like it or not. That is the rule on this group.
Please optimize all images before posting on this group. It is best to keep
your entire post under 500kb because many people will not open a post larger
than that and some folks are still on dial up which is very slow on large
posts. Some are still paying by the minute for Internet service and will not
appreciate a large post.

It is ok to snag scripts, but do not change anything in another's script
except the necessaries such as paths to images, colors, borders, fonts.
Never, ever remove the creator's signature/identity from a script that you
have snagged, and never ever use a snagged script in which someone before
you has made such changes. That could bring on a very unpleasant set of
circumstances to everyone on the group, and no one wants that.

About Copyright and Credits

AnnexCafe and this group respect the copyrights of others. We must place
credits in the stationery for any and all artworks that someone else owns
the copyright to. That
is not difficult to do and Connie's lessons explain how to do it in an
attractive and useful form. So there
is absolutely no excuse for not giving credit where credit is due. If you
need any help with that just ask on this group. If you
are not the creator, then someone else owns the copyright. It is as simple
as that.
No artwork of others may be posted on the group without the
written consent of the creator. If you have individual consent from an
artist you must forward the original letter of consent to AnnexCafe. You
may send it to the moderator who will see that it gets to the proper place.
This is your responsibility. If you
do not have such consent then do not post that artist's works on the group
or anywhere on AnnexCafe.

AnnexCafe has a list of artists who have given AnnexCafe permission to use
their works. Each artist spells out their TOS (the conditions under which
they agree to its usage). You must follow those TOS to the letter. Be sure
to read each artist's TOS and understand it before using their works. You
can access that list here:

news://news.annexcafe.com/annexcafe.honored.artists

This does not mean that they have given permission for their art to be used
anywhere else. The permission is granted only for use on AnnexCafe. Any
other usage does not come under this permission and may be illegal.

You may also suggest that an invitation be sent to an artist not already on
the list and whose works you would like to use. A special letter will be
sent to the artist asking permission, etc for their art to be made available
on the Honored Artists list. Be sure to check the Honored Artists group
regularly to see if it has been added. Then follow any TOS spelled out in
the agreement when you use their art. It's the right thing to do.

In addition there are many sites on the Internet where images are offered
free for personal use. Most of them have TOS, so be sure to read and follow
their conditions by giving credit and a link back to their site and anything
else they require.

Many public domain images are available on the Internet as well. How do you
know if an image is in the public domain? In general, if an artist has been
dead at least 75 years the work has converted to public domain. However,
there are exceptions to this rule. Some copyrights have been renewed by
heirs or other owners of some artworks, but most are not renewed, due most
likely either to the fact that it costs a good deal to reregister the works
with the Library of Congress (in the US) or else some heirs may not realize
they can renew the copyright. It must be done in a timely manner after the
artist's death. Or they may not feel it is worth the cost or the bother.
Whatever the reason, there is tons of excellent public domain art available.
Just use a search engine such as www.google.com to find it. Public domain
art can be used by anyone, anywhere, in any fashion they choose. You do not
need to give credit for public domain art, but it is always nice to do so.
Do, however, state that the art is public domain and give the date of death
and name of the artist somewhere in your stationery, if known.

Annexcafe also has a taboo list of artists whose works may not be posted. If
you are not certain of the artist please check the taboo list on the

news://news.annexcafe.com/annexcafe.announce

Any art posted that is on the taboo list will be removed from the server as
soon as it is detected. You might like to subscribe to that board and check
it frequently.

What you may not do on the group:
This is a family group. No nude photos (not in good taste) or porn is
allowed and
will be removed from the server as soon as detected. There is a rated group
on the server for this material:
news://news.annexcafe.phoenix.graphics.rated

Nude photos in good taste must be noted in the subject line of the post so
that anyone who does not wish to see nudity will know not to open the post.

No political or religious discussions as these tend to create a disturbance
for some people, and we are not here for that purpose. There are religious
and
political groups on the server.
No discourteous remarks to, or in regard to, any person or other
entity will be allowed.
No scary posts will be allowed. Check out all OT subjects thoroughly before
posting warnings about viruses, etc., on the group. Most such
posts are ill-founded and not worth the time it takes to post them. Even if
correct they likely are a waste of time as most folks have AV programs to
detect and warn them of viruses. Those who don't have one should get one as
soon as possible and keep it up to date. I can't tell you how many times in
the last year my AV has saved me a ton of trouble and kept my machine and
its goodies safe from harm. Everyone on the Internet should have an
excellent Anti-Virus program installed and kept up to date.

LaVonne is the moderator. Stinker is the co-moderator. If you have
any complaints or any suggestions for improvements please email LaVonne at
veejay2@sc.rr.com
We want everyone to have fun on this group while learning scripting at the
same time. Please keep a copy of these guidelines handy for future
reference.
Wishing you good scripting
Stinker and LaVonne
