Anyone know if there is significant difference between 8 and 9? Also is
there some place to go and get a trial of 9 still?

I've heard 9 loads faster than 8 and also uses less memory, found a link
here that was working a few minutes ago for the trial version. PSP 9 is
also available at amazon.com but I forgot to check the prices
